Galbraith is a sacred mountain to local riders and represents some of the best singletrack in the state. Easy access and constant trail maintenance and building make it a truly dynamic place to ride. Galbraith is a great mountain for all skill levels of riders from seasoned freeriders to first time trail riders.

OWNERSHIP OF THE MOUNTAIN
Galbraith is privately owned by the Trillium Corporation, a local Bellingham company owned by David and Kay Syre. The Syre family has a long tradition of being very responsible land stewards that believe in environmental protection and more public access. Without the Syre's willingness to work with the WHIMPS, there would be no mountain biking on Galbraith. Another great thing about the Syre family is that John Syre, the son of David and Kay is an avid mountain biker. Galbraith is a open to non-motorized use so you may also see horses and hikers on the mountain so be aware.
TRAIL BUILDING
All the trail building and maintenance is done by the WHIMPS (Whatcom Independent Mountain Pedalers). The WHIMPS are a non profit organization dedicated to the preservation and expansion of trails on Galbraith and the Bellingham area. Trail building is not permitted on Galbratih without explicit authorization by the WHIMPS and all trails must maintain strict IMBA standards. If you are interested in trail building or helping maintain trails, the WHIMPS offer several work parties during the year and are always in need of volunteers.
If freeride trails are more your style, the WHIMPS have a freeride trail crew headed up by Bill Hawk. If you are interested in building and maintaining the freeride style trails on Galbraith please contact Bill for a schedule of work parties and get on his email list.
TYPES OF TRAILS
Galbraith offers a wide array of trails types for all skill levels. For XC riders there are great climbing opportunities coupled with windy singletrack that you can link up with a multitude of trails to create extremely long loops. For a great XC ride, go to the top of the mountain and ride "Wonderland" and wind down to the "Ridge Trail".b For freeriders, local trail builders have been creating jumps and stunts that are extremely well built and emphasize flow. For a great freeriding on the mountain, check out "Evolution" and "Shawns Trail". For all mountain riders there are tons of trails in between that offer technical challenges and lots of pedaling. For a great all mountain trail check out "Bob's Trail". For newbies just getting into the sport, check out "Cedar Dust" to begin working on your mountain bike skills.
WHEN TO RIDE
Galbraith can be ridden year round rain or shine. Of course it is much funner on a sunny day, riding in the wet is a reality for any Northwest mountain biker. Be aware that there can be a considerable amount of water and mud to deal with. In the summer when the trails dry out, Galbraith becomes fast and flowy and the trials begin to truly shine.
